Just a few years ago Kyle McMillin was mentioned as belonging to the younger generation of Masterbuilders, the so-called "Young Guns," alongside Austin MacNutt, Andy Hicks and David Brown. These days, however, Kyle needs no introduction, as his name is on everyone's lips thanks to his phenomenal instruments. He learned his craft from the ground up, working at Fender for over 15 years before finally receiving the finishing touches from Senior Masterbuilder Yuriy Shishkov. And every one of his guitars that we've had the pleasure of handling has demonstrated this, offering a first-class combination of sound, look and playability! This Stratocaster with its beautifully worn, matte Black finish is no exception. Here, McMillin has been a bit restrained with the relicing process, giving the Strat a super authentic appearance with precisely the aging marks one would expect from a genuine vintage guitar. And its playability is equally impressive. Although it boasts a classic vintage look this Stratocaster offers quite modern features that ensure an exceptionally comfortable and enjoyable playing experience. Thus, its enchantingly beautiful "Birdseye Maple AA" neck with partially unlacquered back, 9.5'' fingerboard radius, "60 Style Oval C" profile and the proven Narrow/Tall frets lies perfectly in the hand and, in combination with a dream weight of only 3080 grams, plays simply wonderfully. ...and even more beautiful than its looks is the sound of this dream Strat. Handwound 56 pickups (with RWRP for noise suppression) by Josefina Campos herself are used here. The fresh and resonant fundamental tone from the three singlecoils is transmitted to the amp with plenty of punch and the typical shimmer of a 50s Strat is never lost. Bell-tone at its finest! Blessed with the typical maple neck character of a Stratocaster, offering plenty of attack and percussiveness, it always delivers enough warmth and substance for crunch and even heavily distorted sounds. From super clean to gritty Blues, it covers the entire spectrum, always with its own distinctive 50s character.
