Vincent van Trigt – the legendary masterbuilder who has sadly left the Fender Custom Shop! Every time we get our hands on one of his increasingly rare guitars, we are fascinated by the richness of detail in his aging and the powerful sound of his instruments. This is also the case with this 1961 Heavy Relic Strat, which definitely belongs in the “dream instruments” category. As soon as you open the case you are greeted by an incredible mojo! The heavily reliced “Bleached 3-Tone Sunburst” finish, the tortoise pickguard, the aged pickup caps, the dark Indian rosewood fingerboard, ...everything just fits together perfectly! The first thing you notice when you check it out is the incredibly comfortable neck, which plays in a very modern way like butter thanks to its “Large C” profile, 10" fretboard radius and awesome 6100 Jumbo frets (.790-.930''). Even when you first start playing you can tell how resonant and loud the guitar is. The pickups are the exclusive “Handwound Master Designed LTD” pickups, which were specially developed by Vincent's former teacher John Cruz and have an extremely bell-like and round sound even when played clean, immediately reminiscent of the characteristic sounds à la John Mayer: open, transparent and yet always with enough mids and warmth. Not only do they cover all classic Strat sounds at their best, but they also deliver the richest, warmest, yet always transparent and bell-like vintage 60s sounds par excellence. You can't get a better sound from a Rosewood Strat! All in all, it's a fantastic blend of the best vintage tone and state-of-the-art handling that we know and love from van Trigt.
