John Cruz - the legendary masterbuilder who sadly left the Fender Custom Shop in 2020! Every time we get our hands on one of his now extremely rare guitars, we are fascinated by the wealth of detail in his aging and the tonal power of his instruments. This is also the case with this 1963 Heavy Relic Strat, one of the last instruments that Cruz made for Fender. As soon as you open the case you are greeted by a fabulous mojo! The finish in extremely reliced “3-Tone Sunburst”, the tortoise pickguard, the aged pickup caps, the dark fingerboard made of Indian rosewood, ... everything just looks right here! The first thing that catches the eye is the incredibly comfortable neck, which plays like butter (.790-.930'') with its “60 Oval C” profile, the 9.5" fingerboard radius and the cool 6150 frets. You can tell how resonant and loud the guitar is from the very first time you play it. The slightly hotter wound “Handwound Fat 60s” are used as pickups. Not only can they cover all the classic Strat sounds in top form, but they also provide the richest, warm, yet transparent and bell-like vintage 60s sounds par excellence. There is no better way to get the sound of a rosewood Strat! All in all, a fantastic blend of the best vintage tone and ultra-modern handling as we know and love from master John Cruz. Regardless of the position, the guitar has an incredible amount of substance in its tone. Together with the lively and vibrant basic character of the instrument you get a Strat sound of the finest quality. The previous owner only upgraded the saddle to a Bone-Nut (original included), otherwise this all-round perfect Stratocaster comes to its future owner in top condition.
