Fender Stratocaster 63 Mike Landau Relic Masterbuilt Austin MacNutt (2023)

Michael “the Man” Landau, one of the most sought-after American studio musicians, has supported countless artists such as Steve Lukather, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, and Miles Davis on their recordings, as well as releasing numerous solo albums. Of course the Fender Custom Shop had to produce its own signature guitars for Landau, in this case a fiesta red replica of Landau's original '63 Strat, built by master Austin MacNutt. More specifically, it features a “Fiesta Red over 3-Tone Sunburst” finish with extremely detailed relicing that meticulously replicates every characteristic play and wear mark of the original. But what makes the Landau Strats so special is their sound, which is transmitted to the amp via “Handwound Fat 50s.” These combine the attack and belly of a typical 50s maple neck Strat with the warmth and balance of a rosewood construction. This results in an incredibly fat but also glassy tone that never becomes harsh or too biting. In addition, the Landau Strat features an unusual custom pickup wiring with the first tone control affecting the neck and middle pickups and the second controlling the treble spectrum of the bridge pickup. The comfortable “Landau '63 Custom C” neck profile, a 7.25" radius, a stripped neck back and the proven 6105 Narrow/Tall frets ensure perfect playability, so you won't want to stop flying across the dark AAA rosewood fingerboard. Austin MacNutt—along with David Brown and Andy Hicks one of the newer, extremely creative masterbuilders—has definitely shown what the new guild at the Fender Custom Shop is capable of with this great Strat!
