Fender Stratocaster Eric Johnson "Virginia" Masterbuilt Carlos Lopez (2021)

We are pleased to offer you here the Fender Custom Shop Carlos Lopez Eric Johnson Virginia Strat, a masterbuilt homage to one of the most iconic instruments in guitar music. When Eric Johnson made his debut at Austin City Limits in 1988 and delivered an electrifying performance he did so along with his 1954 Stratocaster named "Virginia." Named after a label on the pickup cables and featuring a sassafras body, this guitar was the engine of that career-defining moment. Eric Johnson is all about tone, so he outfitted Virginia with two custom handwound singlecoils and a DiMarzio HS2 humbucker at the bridge to achieve a huge range of tones. In 2021 Carlos Lopez crafted a detailed replica of Eric Johnson's Virginia Stratocaster, limited to 50 specimens. Every last detail of Johnson's original was painstakingly reproduced. From the Graph Tech string saver saddle on the high E to the flat washer on the output jack to the custom-cut nut, he left nothing out. He even went so far as to match the actual pot values and remove a spring from the rear cavity. The sassafrass body is finished in a truly authentic Closet Classic Sunburst. This finish will wear beautifully over time and develop its own character even further. It also allows the natural resonance of the body to come through much better. The subtle relicing on this beautiful finish is incredibly authentic and gives the instrument a fantastic vintage look. The AAAA flame maple neck plays extremely comfortably thanks to the V-profile, a 12" radius and 21 jumbo frets, giving the Stratocaster tremendous resonance. The tonal richness provided by the special pickup combination is further enhanced by a special wiring that, in conjunction with the 5-way switch, switches the pickups in phase in switch position 2 and in antiphase in position 4 to produce a singing, violin-like tone. Of course a guitar made in an edition of only 50 is a great rarity, but the rarity value of the Eric Johnson "Virginia" experienced a further increase in 2021 when Carlos Lopez left the Fender Custom Shop. So, there may be another Eric Johnson Strat someday, but never again a "Virginia" from masterbuilder legend Carlos Lopez. This is one not to be missed! The guitar comes in mint, near unplayed condition.
