Fender Stratocaster Ltd. Jimmie Vaughan Masterbuilt John Cruz (2019)

Jimmie Vaughan – a name that will forever be synonymous with Texas Blues! A renowned guitarist and lifelong role model for his younger brother Stevie. In 2019 the Fender Custom Shop honored the Vaughan brothers with two guitars, of which only 30 specimens each exist worldwide. Today we are delighted to present the Fender Stratocaster Ltd. Jimmie Vaughan, handmade by legendary masterbuilder John Cruz, who meticulously reconstructed every detail of the original. Jimmie purchased the white Strat from a friend in the late 1970s for $245 and customized it to suit his needs. The modifications, inspired by a “Mary Kaye” Strat, included a one-piece maple neck from the late 1950s and a single-ply white pickguard. Charley's Guitar Shop in Dallas added a new Fender sticker to the headstock and installed larger frets to accommodate Jimmie's spirited playing style. While on tour in Denmark Jimmie then decorated the back of his guitar with a pin-up sticker. Master Cruz copied every single component and every single playing and wear mark of the original, even going so far as to replicate the initials “BC” on the back of the body, which had been carved in by Jimmie's friend from whom he bought the Strat. When you play this wonderfully resonant Stratocaster, you immediately understand why Jimmie calls it his “Hot Rod Race Car.” The “Handwound 50s” at the neck and in the middle are beautifully bell-like and pearly with incredible warmth. Extremely robust and centered, perfect for Blues and Rock. The Handwound 56 pickup installed at the bridge is fat and smacking with excellent percussiveness and crispness. But even with funky single notes and chords in the intermediate positions with an extra dose of assertiveness the Strat shows its masterful potential. The guitar's playability is fantastic with a 9.5'' fretboard radius and “Custom C” shape that fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to play thanks to the perfectly dressed Jumbo frets. All in all, this is an exclusive guitar and a unique opportunity for any collector! But aside from any limitations, investment, and collector aspects, you also get an incredibly good player guitar that is definitely the benchmark for Texas Blues in terms of sound. This Vaughan/Cruz Stratocaster, currently the only one available worldwide, is in mint collector's condition.
