This exclusive, limited reissue edition of the early '58 ES-335 celebrates the debut of one of the most versatile, groundbreaking and prolific Gibsons ever made. The ES-335 was the world's first semi-hollow guitar model, designed by former Gibson president Ted McCarty, who later described it as his proudest contribution. It has been in continuous production since its launch and has been played by countless legendary artists such as B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Larry Carlton and Warren Haynes. This special series, of which we are pleased to offer you one specimen today, features a particularly beautiful Heavy Aging by the Murphy Lab, a faded “Faded Tobacco Burst” finish and a fretboard without binding—a feature found only on the '58 ES-335 models. The Tobacco version is one of three versions celebrating the first ES-335, each limited to 130 instruments to celebrate Gibson's 130th anniversary. The finish has not only been given countless hairline cracks and dents, but also shows a wonderful vintage patina. The neck is also perfectly suited to the instrument with a beautifully strong—not to say fat—neck with a rounded '58 profile. You really have something in your hands here, which of course has an extremely positive effect on the guitar's swinging mass and vibration behavior. Pure ES sound! The two Custombuckers deliver a fantastic vintage ES sound that is beautifully warm with superb response and a wonderfully open tone.
