At a high school prom in 1995 a Gibson guitar helped change the course of music history. In fact, it even rewrote history in an unforgettable cinematic moment. The Gibson ES-345, which was used in the movie “Back to the Future,” became a legend, connecting the past, present and future in a way that only a magnificent instrument can. The first ES-345 saw the light of day in 1959 and Norman Harris of Norman's Rare Guitars, who provided the guitar for the film, which is partly set in 1955, pointed out to the filmmakers that this model did not even exist at that time. However, the producers decided to take artistic license and regardless of the historical facts gave the guitar a prominent role in the scenes at the “Enchantment Under the Sea” school dance. Based on this rich history the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville presented the “Back to the Future 1955 ES-345 Collector's Edition” last year, a successful homage to a classic guitar that transcends the boundaries of time. The guitar has a thinline body made of 3-ply maple/poplar/maple laminate with a solid maple block for more sustain and feedback resistance. The mahogany neck with long tenon is of course attached using hide glue. It has a “1961 Authentic Thin D-Shape” profile that fits super comfortably in the hand and is equipped with a deep dark rosewood fingerboard and 22 “Medium Jumbo” frets, as well as with split parallelogram inlays. In keeping with the original guitar, the only known specimen from that period with a single parallelogram inlay on the 12th fret, the “Back to the Future” of course also features this rare characteristic. ...and to complete the cinematic experience, the “Hill Valley Music” logo was also added to the back of the headstock. Elegant finish in traditional “Cherry Red” with gold-plated hardware and a tune-stable Bigsby B7. The “Light Aging” by the Murphy Lab perfectly rounds off the cool look, limiting itself to subtle paint cracks and only minor imperfections. In terms of sound, this guitar offers a wonderfully balanced tone, strongly reminiscent of the legendary PAFs. With the unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico-III magnets a whole world of sound is at your feet, especially since the semi-hollow is equipped with a mono Varitone switch that further expands the tonal versatility of the instrument. Whether classic Blues, funky Soul, R&B or even fat, rocking sounds — all of this is possible in the best possible way with this ES! What's more, the guitar, which we can offer you in mint condition, comes with a Lifton hard shell case featuring a “Marvin Berry and the Starlighters” motif, as well as various fabulous case candies that will make every collector's heart beat faster. All this makes the Collector's Edition a legendary guitar that transcends the boundaries of time!
