The J-45 was first introduced in 1942 and quickly became a popular classic thanks to its elegant body, wide dynamic range with warm mids and powerful bass. The fascination and legend of the Gibson J-45 lives on in this 1942 Banner, which has been fantastically aged by Murphy Lab. Based on the original, the guitar makers in Kalamazoo, MI, meticulously crafted a J-45 that closely resembles its predecessor in terms of structure and components. A thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top was used, which was historically correctly finished by hand with ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer, as well as a solid mahogany back and sides. In close collaboration between the University of America and Gibson a process has been developed in which the top is artificially aged in elaborate processes by shaping the cell structure through temperature and pressure as if the instrument were from the golden vintage years. The signs of wear and tear applied during the Light Aging process only reinforce this impression and create a phenomenally weathered, well-played look. It's just great what the guys at Murphy Labs have done here! Furthermore, the focus was on optimal playability with the fretboard edges perfectly rounded for even better feel and the string action optimized from the factoy using the patented PLEK process. The fretboard and bridge are treated with finishing oil, which maximizes the natural resonance of the woods. The neck with its comfortable “Rounded Shape” profile fits perfectly in the hand and is fantastic to play. Absolutely world-class sound! Classic, woody and open sound with an excellent frequency spectrum. Perfect for singer/songwriters! We are delighted to be able to offer you this “original workhorse” in mint condition. As the banner on the headstock says: “Only a Gibson is good enough”!
