The J-45 was first introduced in 1942 and soon became a popular classic with its elegant body and its wide dynamic range with warm mids and powerful bass. The fascination and legend of the Gibson J-45 lives on in the Custom Historic 1942 Banner. Based on the original the luthiers in Montana meticulously crafted this J-45, which is based directly on the original in terms of structure and components. A thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top was used here, which was finished by hand with ultra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer in a historically correct manner, as well as back and sides made of solid mahogany. In close cooperation between the University of America and Gibson a process has been developed, in which the top is artificially aged in a complex process, in which the cell structure is shaped by temperature and pressure as if the instrument were from the golden vintage years. The focus was also on optimum playability by perfectly rounding the fingerboard edges for an even better feel and optimizing the string action using Gibson's patented PLEK process. The fingerboard and bridge are treated with finishing oil, which maximizes the natural resonance of the wood. With its pleasant “Rounded Shape” profile the neck lies comfortably in the hand and is fantastic to play. The sound is absolutely world class! Classic, woody and open sound with an outstanding frequency spectrum. Perfect for singer/songwriters! We are pleased to be able to offer you the original Workhorse in mint condition. As the banner on the headstock says: “Only a Gibson is good enough”!
