Gibson Les Paul 58 Collectors Choice CC28 STP Montrose Burst (2015)

In 2015 Gibson honored legendary Rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose with the Collector's Choice #28 STP Burst, a limited-edition of 300 specimens of his 1958 Les Paul, which the exceptional guitarist had used on his last tour with Edgar Winter, as well as on Montrose's first two albums (Montrose and Paper Money). He himself named his Paula "STP" because years before he bought it an STP sticker had been applied to it and after its removal only a red silhouette remained on the faded Cherry-Sunburst finish. The CC28 was developed by Gibson in collaboration with owner and German studio musician Peter Weihe and by means of an extensive analysis of the original guitar, meticulously reproducing every last detail of the original. The Montrose Burst at hand stands out first of all because it has an exceptionally beautiful top with a killer aging. And like all the CC28s we've dealt with so far it's a top player with its stripped neck back and extremely comfortable 58 medium neck profile. It feels great in the hand and plays extremely comfortably. And the sound of this Les Paul is first choice especially for friends of Classic Rock sounds ! Tonally very open and bell-like with a super attack, great tone and always very differentiated. Even in the upper registers you elicit this guitar singing lead sounds with a great sustain. Of course the CC28s have been sold out for a long time and are also hard to find on the used market.
