Gibson Les Paul 59 60th Anniversary Tom Murphy Painted & Aged (2020)

For Wilcutt Guitars in Lexington, Kentucky, a few 60th Anniversary Les Pauls were produced by the Gibson Custom Shop as part of a special edition. In addition to the incredible attention to detail of these models, including laser-cut original dimensions, chemically reproduced plastics and sunburst finishes based on the originals, they were also painted and aged by Tom Murphy himself (as evidenced by his initials in the electronics compartment and in the lacquer below the pots). It is well known that such a special Gibson from the Custom Shop is very rare to find since the opening of the Murphy Lab and is therefore extremely sought after, which of course guarantees the best possible value retention. We are delighted to be able to present three specimens of this special edition to you today. They come with unpotted Alnico-III Custombuckers, which immediately remind us of old PAFs in terms of sound and are beautifully airy, transparent with the characteristic mids and highs. Whether Jazz, Blues or Hardrock - with these pickups every style of music can be served at its very best. Fat, assertive and differentiated with a dynamic tone that is convincing clean, as well as distorted and with singing lead sounds all along the line. In addition, this Wilcutt Paula with its "Authentic '59 Medium C" neck profile and an ideal weight of just 3940 grams offers the very best playability. And how could it be otherwise, its top "painted" by Tom Murphy fascinates with a wonderful color gradient, great grain and perfect bookmatching, which he has further refined with a super authentic aging with countless hairline cracks, larger and smaller quirks and lacquer abrasion in the significant places. In addition to minor differences in weight the three 60th Anniversaries vary mainly due to their individual cover grain and their respective color tone.
