This Les Paul remains one of the coolest tribute guitars to ever leave the Gibson Custom Shop. Only 300 of the Billy F. Gibbons Goldtop were built, 150 of which were VOS versions. The pinstripe design was created by Billy himself and hand-applied to each of the guitars under the supervision of hotrod artist Rick Harris. But that's not the only special feature of this guitar. For starters, it comes in at an ultra-light 3.3 kg thanks to chambering. The electronics have also been slimmed down compared to a normal Les Paul. So there is no toggle switch here, instead the two Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers are mixed together with the two volume controls. The third pot acts as the master tone. Sound-wise, you just get pure Texas here! The pickups deliver a crisp, clear sound that emphasizes every nuance of attack - just like "Reverend Billy G." needs for his style! Especially distorted you really knock on the "Pearly Gates" here. Crisp, fat and three-dimensional, the tone presents itself at every pickup position. Our copy wears the number 053 and was played a lot, which is why it has clear belt buckle marks in the varnish on the back. Also, the pickups were removed and reinstalled once, but with near perfect soldering. So here you can let off steam as a player. And you want to, because the neck's medium-50s profile, designed after Billy's own goldtop, plays just fantastic. Here you get the holy trinity of killer looks, Texas tone and perfect handling at a killer price. Amen!
