Gibson Les Paul Goldtop 30th Anniversary (1983)

Anniversary models from Gibson are always something truly special. This magnificent specimen from 1983 is no exception: a limited edition "30th Anniversary" model, restricted to just 500 pieces. Made in the original Kalamazoo factory it represents the first serious attempt at a reissue aimed at faithfully recreating a '57 Goldtop. The neck shape and size – an exceptionally comfortable '50s C-profile – as well as the 17-degree headstock angle have been perfectly replicated. Furthermore, the deeper, more pronounced top arch, primarily found on Les Pauls from the 1950s, has been faithfully reproduced. It features a one-piece mahogany body, a two-piece maple top with a narrow, cream-colored binding and pickguard, a rosewood fretboard with mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, gold-colored speed knobs and a mother-of-pearl anniversary inlay on the 18th/19th fret – these are the basic features this Anniversary Les Paul boasts. But what truly makes this guitar an absolute must-have are the two "Tim Shaw" humbuckers installed here, embodying everything we love about the sound of 1950s Les Pauls: an extremely articulate, harmonically rich tone and incredible sustain! ...and the bridge pickup, in particular, delivers that coveted, mid-range "chirp". "Tim Shaw" pickups are known for their vintage windings, sand-cast magnets and special pickup spacers. They originated when in the early 1980s Gibson realized that their pickups had strayed significantly from the legendary sounds of the golden era that had so profoundly shaped their brand. To counteract this Gibson commissioned engineer Shaw to analyze a range of PAF pickups and replicate the sound of these coveted humbuckers as closely as possible. The result is a truly impressive interpretation of the vintage humbucker from the golden era, as can easily be heard in the sound of this Les Paul. As expected, the playability is also top-notch with the aforementioned neck profile allowing for extremely comfortable and responsive playing. But what makes our offer today even more compelling, beyond all these general features, is that this is truly the perfect collector's package. Not only is the 43-year-old Les Paul, including the frets, in mint condition, but it also comes with the original case, the original invoice and delivery note and an advertisement from the 1980s.
