The strictly limited edition "Joe Bonamassa Goldtop" is one of the highlights from the Gibson Custom Shop and is of course long sold out and virtually impossible to find on the used market. It's based on the Goldtop that Bonamassa primarily played between 2008 and 2011. Before regular production of the limited series could begin a prototype was created based on the original, which we are delighted to offer you today. This prototype, built in 2007 as a precursor to the actual series, was used by Joe during the studio recordings of the album "The Ballad of John Henry," particularly on the song "Stop." He then toured with the guitar until 2009. it is a very special guitar to him and he just feels that it needs to be played (see attached handwritten letter from Joe Bonamassa). So with a heavy heart he parted with it, initially selling it through his trusted dealer, Norman's Rare Guitars in Los Angeles... and what a fantastic Les Paul it is! The neck has a stronger '59 profile. It feels great in the hand and provides excellent sustain. Tonally, the guitar is very reminiscent of classic, vintage Les Pauls with their singing, articulate PAF sound. The neck pickup produces a lovely, twangy attack and the clean tone instantly evokes B.B. King. A classic, well-rounded Blues sound! In the middle position, it's perfect for wonderful soul and R&B tones: beautifully bell-like and never shrill. The bridge pickup can also deliver juicy lead sounds — familiar from Mr. Bonamassa, of course, but it can also easily fill the Gary Moore mold. There are also a few other nice details, such as different control knobs for each pickup and nylon saddles for the three highest strings.
