We have here a 2014 Les Paul Supreme, which was not produced in the Custom Shop, but as a limited Gibson USA model is a guitar of absolute superlatives. Based on a Les Paul Standard it has a number of special features that set it apart from the regular standard model: “chambered” and therefore lightweight mahogany body with stunning AAA top and back made of extremely flamed maple, rounded 50's style mahogany neck with bound Richlite fingerboard, 3-ply binding and gold-colored hardware (including the frets). Together with the vintage style split-block fingerboard inlays and globe inlay on the headstock this guitar is certainly one of the most stylish around. This outfit combines both new and vintage flavors for a Les Paul that can be used in any style from Country to Metal. But lovers of Classic Rock and Blues will feel particularly at home here. The finest double-coil sound with a slightly higher mid-range compared to the classic P.A.F. replicas, which corresponds perfectly with the woody basic character of the instrument. If Gibson's thinner Slim Taper necks don't particularly suit you, then the slightly thicker and incredibly comfortable '50 neck profile of the Les Paul Supreme is just right for you. Not only does it sit well in the hand, but the additional wood of the neck provides sufficient swing mass, a more powerful dynamic and sustain that lasts for days. In 2014 Gibson equipped the Les Paul Supreme with a humbucker trio with gold-colored covers. The neck and middle pickups are Gibson's 490R with Alnico-II magnets for a smooth frequency response. Combined with the 490T humbucker on the bridge, which shows enormous punch in the mid frequency range, you get a wide range of tones for practically every style. This impression is reinforced by the fact that the supposed second tone control is actually a blend control, which enables further sound facets.
