Knaggs Kenai T2 Flame Top Semi-Hollow Indian Red (2010)
Josef Knaggs is likely known to most as one of the leading minds behind PRS's "Private Stock" program. But in 2009 he founded Knaggs Guitars together with marketing expert Peter Wolf. Their mission is to meticulously select the woods and materials for their guitars while incorporating the latest advances in guitar building. All guitars – except for the "Artist Signature" models – are named after Native American river names in North America. The Chena is no exception, named after a river in the US state of Alaska and boasting exclusive features. The gorgeous gloss finish in "Indian Red" alone makes this guitar stand out from the crowd immediately. Complementing it perfectly: the elegant gold hardware and the mahogany body in single-cut design, topped with an exceptionally beautifully figured Tier-2 maple cap. The mahogany neck with a medium "59" profile features a classic 24.75" scale length and sits perfectly in the hand with a 43mm nut width. The dark rosewood fretboard with 22 "Medium Jumbo" frets also offers something for the eyes with its great-looking "Morning Star" inlays. Knaggs uses David Allen's “WCH AlleyCats” pickups in this Chena, which are based on the sound of original vintage PAFs. The neck position proves nicely full and voluminous, yet clear with pleasant highs. Just the right amount of bass without compromising clarity in any way. The AlleyCat in the bridge position has a strong midrange without ever sounding overloaded. It's a classic PAF response that simply brims with overtones. Works perfectly with overdrive or even heavy distortion. Overall, you get a rather vintage-oriented tonal character here, fitting the airy, dynamic nature of this semi-hollow. The Chena is by no means tailored to specific genres – it feels equally at home in Jazz and Blues as it does in Rock. An all-around fantastic and exclusive guitar, which we can offer you apart from minimal signs of use and storage including the frets in top condition.
