Martin D-18 DC David Crosby Signature 159 of 250 (2002)

David Crosby, founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, who has passed away two years ago, can certainly be described as an absolute icon of music history and this Martin D-18DC David Crosby Signature is a beautiful and extremely rare guitar. It was produced in 2002 according to Crosby's personal specifications in a strictly limited edition of 250 specimens. Here we are dealing with serial number 159, which is an exact replica of Crosby's very first Martin, which he played until the early days of Crosby, Stills & Nash. David's wooden ship in abalone is also emblazoned on the headstock. The top is made of straight-grained Engelmann spruce, which is very similar to Sitka spruce, but is characterized by a stronger vintage sound. The back and sides are made from the extremely rare “Quilted Mahogany”. Matching abalone dot inlays on the deep dark ebony fingerboard, “Style 45 Blue Paua Shell” rosette, the attractive “Faux Tortoise” binding and the characteristic abalone signature of David Crosby on the 19th fret. The “Modified V” neck profile fits perfectly in the hand and ensures the best playing characteristics. In terms of sound we are dealing here with an enormously dynamic acoustic with great overtones and trebles, clear, warm mids and a very balanced bass. Whether strumming or fingerpicking, this Martin makes a very good impression in both areas! Collector's item or soundmighty top player? ...here you get both in top form. The guitar, which also bears David's original signature on the label, is in top condition apart from minimal signs of use.
