Among the truly great string artists of recent decades John Petrucci certainly stands out – with his Prog-Rock band Dream Theater he has been a defining influence inspiring generations of musicians. Musicality and seemingly limitless virtuosity, modern playing techniques and an extremely versatile, powerful sound are Petrucci's hallmarks. The successful collaboration between Petrucci and Music Man has been going strong for many years now, producing a multitude of high-quality signature models. Reduced to the absolute essentials is this JP6 in wonderfully matte "Stealth Black" – the color of the legendary American Stealth bomber. It deliberately foregoes visual ornamentation, as the focus here is meant to be squarely on its overwhelming sound. This is guaranteed by the excellent choice of wood alone with basswood being used here due to its outstanding resonance properties, especially for distorted sounds. Solid, wonderfully flat maple neck, 16" fretboard radius, ebony fretboard with the characteristic "Custom JP Shield" inlays and 24 "High Profile Wide" frets, Schaller M-6 IND locking tuners, Music Man "Special Petrucci" tremolo... ,this cohesive and extremely well-thought-out guitar truly offers everything a musician's heart desires. Especially in terms of sound and tonal versatility, we're operating in the highest league here: alongside a DiMarzio "John Petrucci Signature LiquiFire" at the neck and a DiMarzio "John Petrucci Signature Crunch Lab" at the bridge there's also a factory-installed piezo bridge including piezo preamp and 2-band equalizer for silky acoustic tones. The DiMarzios deliver absolutely massive Rock sounds with extreme versatility – super dynamic, easy to control and absolutely noise-free. Additionally, the humbuckers split in the middle position for ultra-clear singlecoil sounds. The piezo can be engaged via its own toggle switch and controlled through separate knobs (Mix, Treble, Bass). This means that alongside the rich humbucker tone you also get a wonderful acoustic sound that not only sounds fantastic in practice but significantly expands this instrument's range of applications.
