Nik Huber Krautster II Maple Top Station Music 30th Anniversary (2020)

The fact that good guitars can be built in Germany is nothing new. Nik Huber, among others, is responsible for the good reputation. His guitars are not only in demand in Germany, but also in the USA. With the Krautster II, it clearly goes into the corner of Les Paul Junior and consorts. Pure sound, great handling and only the finest components. Of course, this is also the case with this Krautster II from 2020, which was built as part of a strictly limited special series for the 30th anniversary of Station Music and of which only five copies exist worldwide. We are dealing with a light mahogany body and an "Exceptional Eastern Flame Maple" top. And this maple top really packs a punch: perfect bookmatching, fabulous grain and a beautiful faded sunburst finish. Matching the great flame maple binding and the haptically perfect fingerboard made of East Indian rosewood. The playing characteristics of the guitar are of course of the very best thanks to the "Std. Krautster" neck carve and a dream weight of only 3190 grams. But the best thing about this Huber is its sound! The combination of a P90 "1956" on the neck with a "1959+" humbucker on the bridge definitely leaves nothing to be desired in terms of sound. This combo is just fun! At the bridge, the Krautster covers everything from AC/DC to Foo Fighters to a juicy modern rock board when distorted. Fat and uncompromising with an invitation for hard riffs and singing lead sounds! And the P90 on the neck likes it clean too. Crisp, direct, very fresh and yet with enormous warmth for clean pickings and warm blues. So the Krautster shows itself as a full-blown sound chameleon and last but not least it convinces also by the additional sound variety, which can be realized by the split function of the humbucker via push/pull pot. The guitar is in top condition except for a few plectrum scratches in the black pickguard, which can't be avoided even when playing it for the first time.
