In collaboration with the American guitar hero John Mayer, Paul Reed Smith has created a completely newly developed instrument with the Silver Sky, which quite openly and unabashedly represents a declaration of war on the competition in the S-style guitar segment. And PRS would not be PRS, if this did not go hand in hand with the claim to build a Strat that is superior in all respects because it has been redeveloped in every detail. The Silver Sky John Mayer gets its reference to musicality from its namesake, whose wish to create a modern guitar with the feel of a vintage instrument was realized. As he says himself: “It has been a dream of mine for years to design a guitar that incorporates some of my favorite vintage specs, but with a modern spirit and aesthetic. After two years of study and refinement the Silver Sky is my vision of what a reboot of the electric guitar should look and feel like.” And indeed, a classic look, great playability and top-class Strat sounds come together here. The JM singlecoils, a perfectly functioning tremolo and the super comfortable “635 JM” scale, which can lend liveliness and warmth to the tone at the same time, contribute to this. An extremely round and full sound with a musical high-end that never sounds shrill. The perfect John Mayer combination of fatness and enormous belliness! The “635 JM” profile of the neck with its 7.25″ fretboard radius and the narrow, but comparatively slightly higher frets also ensure fantastic playing characteristics. In this combination the neck has a more vintage feel, but the playability is modern. Simply brilliant! This Silver Sky was also played with pleasure, as can be seen from the occasional minimal traces of use and wear that are unavoidable on a jet-black guitar. Otherwise the guitar comes with the best price/performance ratio and in top condition to its future owner, who will certainly enjoy this exceptional instrument.
