In 1980 Mark Knopfler and Rudy Pensa met at Rudy's Music Stop on 48th Street in New York, which led to a friendship that continues to this day and a fantastic musical collaboration. Knopfler's intention was to obtain a guitar that could replace both his '61 Stratocaster and his '58 Gibson Les Paul, as he was tired of constantly having to switch between the two guitars during his performances. The collaboration between the aforementioned protagonists resulted in numerous Knopfler-Pensas, the most famous of which is probably his “Caramel Carve Top,” which made its debut at the “Nelson Mandela” concert in 1988. Based on the look of this legendary instrument this Pensa MK 2 also captivates from the moment you open the guitar case. A phenomenally grained quilted maple top with a fascinating translucent caramel finish! This is complemented by elegant gold-colored hardware, cream-colored pickup caps, a matching headstock and a deep dark East Indian rosewood fingerboard. The chambered mahogany body with a dream weight of only 2770 grams, the proven 6105 frets and the extremely comfortable medium “Standard C” neck profile guarantee the very best playing characteristics. In terms of sound we are dealing with “Lindy Fralin” singlecoils, which are handwound according to 1950s specifications with “Alnico V” magnets to deliver a bright, clear and authentic vintage singlecoil sound that is articulate and bell-like. This gives you the characteristic lively “Knopfler sound” with a balanced volume ratio between the pickups and a dynamic range. Super response, great mids, beautifully open without muddiness and with enough clarity for percussive rhythm sounds. Pure playing pleasure! Except for minimal signs of wear (especially on the back side) the guitar is in top condition, and since it now has a list price of over EUR 12,000 and a waiting period of around one year we are extremely pleased to be able to offer this special highlight at a preferential price.
