The Teuffel “Birdfish”, which was first presented at the Frankfurt Music Fair in 1995, is certainly one of the most extraordinary instruments. The completely unique and differently constructed guitar has won numerous design awards and impresses with its outstanding design language and convincing functionality. Its modular construction not only looks good, but also enables an almost unlimited variety of tonal variations, which guitarist Richard Kruspe has already used in various Rammstein songs. Ulrich Teuffel, an industrial designer who used to work for the car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, mainly makes his guitars by hand, as all parts with the exception of the bridge are made by himself. For the Birdfish he uses two aluminum support elements called “Bird” and “Fish”, which hold the neck made of old bird's-eye maple on the one hand and the futuristic-looking switching center, the bridge and the two sound bodies on the other. The latter are put under tension by the string tension and are largely responsible for the sound. Accordingly there is a clear difference in sound when the red maple sound bodies are used instead of the two blue ones made of swamp ash. The sound of the guitar is also greatly influenced not only by the pickups themselves, but also by their adjustable position, angle and height. The Birdfish takes this into account with an ingenious, modal rail system. Three pickups can be freely selected from a total of five pickups, two humbuckers and three singlecoils to be precise. The order and positioning can be changed at lightning speed, allowing maximum tonal flexibility and variety. Furthermore, this Birdfish is also equipped with the midi option with piezo, which is available at extra cost and can further increase the instrument's richness of facets. The pickups are switched via a 5-way switch in the usual manner of a Stratocaster. We are delighted to be able to offer you this futuristic "Teuffelszeug" in mint condition.
